On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the Beijing Forum and the 125th anniversary of the founding of Peking University, and in collaboration with the National Astronomical Observatories of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Peking University has applied for and obtained the approval of the Executive Committee Working Group Small Bodies Nomenclature of the International Astronomical Union to designate the No. “58741” asteroid with the name “Boya” which evokes brilliance and magnanimity and also succinctly encapsulates the nonpareil academic tradition and unique intellectual temperament developed at Peking University.
Beijing Forum has consistently dedicated itself to promoting understanding and dialogue among different civilizations, advocating mutual appreciation of differences while seeking harmony in diversity and enriching a new form of human advancement. It strives to solve the significant global challenges of today’s world and promote a human community with a shared future through the concept of “civilizational coexistence”. “Boya”, referring to both the asteroid and the concept itself, gazes upon the vast universe, encompasses the broad-heartedness of numerous rivers, nurtures the righteousness of heaven and earth and encapsulates the journey of human culture; it is a declaration of collective action and a novel vision for civilization amid global changes of a magnitude unseen in a century.
